Employment Status: Part-Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay: $14.75 Hourly
Experience Required: At least eighteen (18) years of age with experience working with children informal or formal learning Or equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the duties of the job.
Minimum Education Requirements: College coursework in science, education, or environmental studies.
Department: Education.
Direct Supervisor: Education Managers.
Supervisory Responsibility: Direct (0); Indirect (0)
Primary Work Location: Zoo Setting both indoors and outdoors.
Certification: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screen. Ability to pass annual TB test.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:
Teaches animal and plant-oriented programs; handles animals and biofacts from the educational collection; manages students for the duration of programs; has appropriate interactions with children, parents and zoo staff; leads outdoor tours; facilitates on-grounds interpretation; completes associated preparatory and clean-up work; represents the zoo in a positive manner.
Programs to be taught may include: on-grounds programming (including school aged, early childhood, exhibit interpretation, homeschool, scouts, family, and adult programs), day camps, zoomobiles, zoo booths, special events, animal presentations, etc).
Commitment to mastering all content and skills needed to provide quality programming to zoo program participants and guests.
Comfort and ability to handle animal ambassadors with provided training. Maintains active handler status.
Provides safe learning environment. Ability to respond and act appropriately according to emergency protocols and policies.
Operates and maintains AV equipment.
Reports programming needs to appropriate education management.
Promotes conservation messaging that supports Zoo’s mission.
Drive excellence in guest interactions and satisfaction.
Represents the zoo in a professional manner at all times.
