Description

Loro Parque is looking to hire a curator for their aquarium. 

You can expect an attractive salary as well as a pleasant working environment and a modern zoological garden (2017 & 2018 rated #1 in the world by TripAdvisor users) in the green north of the island of Tenerife.

Duties

  • Ensure the welfare of the animals under their care

  • Draw up the procedures for working with animals for the functions assigned to the team, including feeding, clinical care, training, cleaning, safety, etc. and ensure that they are carried out by all personnel

  • Ensure that the team in charge is properly trained in work procedures

  • Report any physical changes in the animals that may pose a danger to them to the veterinary department and Zoo Management

  • Supervise adequate water quality

  • Checking that working facilities and tools are in perfect condition and cleanliness

  • Supervision of animal transportInstitutional relations with other aquariums, universities, national and international associations in the sector and scientific institutions to participate in dissemination, environmental education, and research programmes.

  • Participation and presentation of work in congresses, courses, workshops, and specialised journals in the sector.

  • Observational skills and a keen eye for detail to consistently monitor animal health and behaviour

  • Knowledge of marine biology and marine ecology to comprehend the specific requirements of marine animals and aquatic ecosystems

  • Leadership and team management abilities to ensure staff members are motivated, skilled, and efficient in their work.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals, such as veterinarians and scientists, to ensure comprehensive animal care and participation in research projects.

  • Effective communication and educational skills to conduct public outreach and environmental education programmes.

  • Experience in the use of specialised equipment and technology employed in the management of zoological facilities and aquaria.

  • Holding relevant certifications or additional training, such as aquatic resource management or marine conservation, may be advantageous.

Qualifications and Person Specifications

  • Significant experience in projects related to active corals will be highly valued

  • The languages used in the institution are Spanish and English so proficiency in these two languages would be required
