Located in the heart of Western Sydney, Sydney Zoo strives to showcase a broad range of native and exotic animals using technology and advanced exhibit design, with a strong focus on animal welfare, conservation, and educating our visitors about animals and their habitats. The Position
This is an outstanding opportunity to be part of an exciting team at Sydney zoo in the new role of Animal Care Manager (Exotics), utilising your skills in an area that you are genuinely passionate about. This role will commence as soon as possible.
The Animal Care Manager (Exotics) responsible for efficient and integrated daily operations for their section and staffing team. Within their section, they are responsible for animal husbandry and welfare outcomes, planned habitat maintenance and improvements. This role may be required to coordinate and facilitate Sydney Zoo’s Work Experience and Vocational Training Programs.
Skills, Knowledge, and Relevant Experience
ESSENTIAL
Demonstrated experience in wild animal husbandry specifically demonstrated experience working with various ungulate and carnivore species and elephants
Demonstrated experience in relationship management.
Demonstrated experience in species management.
Demonstrated experience in senior level management of strategy, budget and staff responsibilities in animal operations at a Zoo (or equivalent facility) for at least 10 years
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Experience in visitor experience.
Relevant tertiary qualification.
Thorough understanding of the World Aquarium and Zoo and Aquarium Association (WAZA) Conservation and Animal Welfare Strategies and demonstrated knowledge of implementation thereof, with the emphasis on the Australasian region.
